Demo: Lärchenwinkel Holiday Homes

A before/after demo for holiday-rental hosts: a website as it stood in 2011 and its new version, both live, to click through.

Before and after

Both versions are live, side by side. A click on either frame opens it to click through.

The old version: a fixed page frame on a beige ground, a header image, a list of links from summer to contact on the left, four thumbnails and long paragraphs on the right.

Before

The new version: a photograph of the four houses above the valley, the line Vier Häuser. Ein Tal. Ihre Zeit. across it, the summer and winter switch and the availability check at the bottom.

After

The problem

Many holiday-rental hosts in Carinthia have a website that has not been touched in over ten years: fixed width, no layout for phones, no inquiry form, prices as a table somewhere at the back. What a new site actually does differently is hard to show without an example.

The solution

An invented business with four holiday homes, built twice. The old version deliberately reproduces the typical weaknesses. The new one has five pages, an availability check with a pre-filled inquiry, a summer/winter switch and images in modern formats. Both versions are live; a bar at the top switches between them.

What there is to see

Before · After

All names, prices and reviews are invented. The business does not exist.

What the new version does differently

Five pages instead of ten, because summer, winter and getting there belong together. Availability and price stand at the top, the inquiry comes pre-filled with the dates and the house. Images are held in AVIF and WebP in two sizes, and the page loads without any third-party scripts.

What carries over from it

The same framework holds any holiday letting with two to twenty units. The booking system and the sending of inquiries are connected up in a real project; here they are dummies.
